It is a matter of immense pleasure and pride for me that the blueprint for Tourism promotion of Kushinagar has been prepared and is being pursued aggressively at the initiative of the District Administration. I commend the efforts of the team that is working towards putting together a remarkable tourism promotion-cum-press kit of which this book forms a part.
As we all know, Kushinagar is the sacred place chosen by Lord Buddha himself to achieve Mahaparinirvana. This is the place where he was cremated and his relics were distributed. This bestows great religious significance and enhances the tourism potential of this district as an important pilgrimage destination. Kushinagar is one of the four important pilgrimage sites for Buddhists all over the world.
This is, perhaps, the first book of its kind on Kushinagar covering the important pilgrimage sites with amazing illustrations capturing the spirit of this sacred district. I am sure this will pave the way for further publications or tourism literature on Kushinagar and motivate other districts of Uttar Pradesh to promote tourism on similar lines.
This book deserves to be on the bookshelf of all those who are interested in tourism, Kushinagar as well as Buddhism.
I feel privileged to be invited to release this insightful coffee table book and tourism kit on the occasion of the World Tourism Day.
To this end, I would like to offer my blessings to the District Magistrate of Kushinagar, Sri Andra Vamsi, for this commendable initiative and for recognizing the tourism potential of this unique district of Uttar Pradesh. He deserves my hearty congratulations for taking the lead and guiding his team to make this project a reality. I would also like to commend the efforts of the renowned photographer Rajesh Kumar Singh for his incredible images and Vincent Van Ross for the manuscript of this book.
